Paleontology of the Charentaise Slipper
When the history of dinosaurs meets Charente craftsmanship
An exceptional paleontological site
The Audoin et Fils quarries in Angeac-Charente are the site of rich paleontological discoveries. Paleontologists, excavating the clay layers, have unearthed the remains of numerous dinosaurs that lived there, in a marshy plain, 130 million years ago.
The mysterious footprints
Wading through the mud, the dinosaurs left their footprints in the ground, creating long tracks that were fossilized in the sediment. But what were these strange footprints discovered in Charente? An unknown dinosaur?
The innovative solution
From the footprints, paleontologists were able to scientifically reconstruct the dinosaur's identity and its mode of locomotion. It was Pepe, the large sauropod from Angeac-Charente, who had found a way to keep his feet clean.
A genius inventor
It was Pepe, the sauropod from Angeac, who, tired of his wife's nagging about his muddy feet, asked Rondinanthropus pantouflei, the proto-shoemaker, to find him a solution. The latter then invented the felt slipper to contribute to peace among sauropod households.
With two pairs of slippers per dinosaur, his little business immediately took off. Despite the failure of his ambitious project for millipede slippers*, his success stemmed from the fact that he understood before his competitors the lack of future for the Jurassic fashion of flint-knuckled slippers...* or millipedes
